Peru may be famous for mountains and ancient ruins, but travel north along the Pacific coast and a very different landscape awaits. Long sandy beaches, warm waters, spectacular sunsets and laid-back fishing villages make this one of the country’s best places to slow down.
Máncora is the best-known beach town, while nearby Vichayito, Los Órganos, Punta Sal and Zorritos offer quieter stretches of coast. Spend your days surfing, whale watching, riding along the beach or simply finding a peaceful spot by the ocean.
Life here remains closely connected to the sea. Fishing boats bring in the day’s catch and local restaurants turn it into wonderfully fresh ceviche and some of northern Peru’s most celebrated seafood.
Whether you come for the waves, the sunshine or a few days of doing very little at all, the northern beaches are a perfect place to unwind — and a wonderful way to end a journey through Peru.
