Love in the Mountains: How We Fell for Each Other (and Peru) Twice

Some stories take a straight path. Ours zigzagged through time zones, WhatsApp calls, airport security lines, and more emotional plot twists than a Netflix series, starting in 2004 and still going strong..

We met more than 20 years ago in Peru—on the Cusco main square in the middle of the magical Andes. We had an instant connection. But, as life does, it pulled us in different directions. Many things happened in the meantime: jobs, countries, relationships, children, pandemics… you name it.

Fast forward to years later: a message, a call, a long conversation that turned into hours, then days, then something unmistakably real. The spark never left. In fact, it had only grown stronger,

wiser, and maybe with a little more baggage. Reconnecting after so many years felt surreal, like opening a door that had always been there, waiting. We started talking (a lot), laughing (even more), and dreaming together. Not just about each other, but about life, purpose, travel, and

Peru—the place that originally brought us together.

We both share a deep love for Peru: the people, the food (oh, the food!), the endless mountain trails, and the culture that is both welcoming and wildly complex. A love that has extended to Holland, which may not offer mountains but a lot of other great things! We realized we didn’t just love each other—we loved the same life. So we decided to build it. Together, on two continents.

Two Cultures, One Life (Plus Time Zones)

Being in love across continents isn’t all romantic airport reunions (though we’ve had plenty of those, complete with movie-worthy hugs). It’s also:

  • 7-hour time differences, which means “good morning” messages come almost at dinnertime.
  • Phone calls instead of cuddles, for months on end.
  • And endless airport goodbyes that never, ever get easier.

Cultural quirks keep things interesting, too. In Peru, it’s normal to keep your jacket on inside because, well, central heating isn’t a thing. In Holland, that’s borderline rude. In Dutch, sarcasm is an art form. In Spanish, it sometimes flies right over our heads. We technically speak

the same languages, but try telling (or understanding) a joke in your second language—it’s humbling.

Still, these differences have become one of our greatest strengths. We sometimes see things from different perspectives, and that helps us grow. You learn that other ways of looking at the world are not right or wrong, just different. When you’re navigating love and life across cultures, listening with an open heart becomes your superpower.

Building a Dream (and a Business)

Now, we live between two continents and two cultures—but we’ve created one shared dream: a

travel company that helps others fall in love with Peru, just like we did.

We believe travel isn’t just about places. It’s about connection—to people, to stories, and sometimes, to your soulmate on the other side of the world.

Whether we’re hiking in the Sacred Valley or riding bikes through Amsterdam, our passion is to share what we love most: adventure, culture, and meaningful travel experiences.

Let’s Journey Together

So here we are—Peruvian and Dutch, dreamers and doers, living proof that love knows no borders (though it does require a good phone plan and a lot of supporting familie on both sides of the ocean). We’d love to share our favorite trails, tastes, and travel tales with you.

Ready to explore Peru with us? Who knows—you might just fall in love too.
